HCI Receives Guyana Award For Exemplary Contribution

Recognizing HCI's decade long contribution in relief and development work in Guyana and with the victims of recent floods, the Guyana Independence Committee gave HCI the Guyana Award in the category of Exemplary Contribution. Two HCI Board Members represented HCI and received the award on HCI's behalf on May 28 during the Guyana Awards 2005 Gala commemorating the 39th Independence Anniversary which was sponsored by the Guyana Independence Committee under the auspices of the Consulate General of Guyana.


TML pupils give $9,000 to tsunami children

Saddened by the suffering of the children who survived the Asian tsunami disaster, it took only three days for the pupils of the San Fernando Trinidad Muslim League (TML) Primary school to raise almost $9,000...the money would get to the needy through the Canada-based Human Concern International (HCI) organisation.

Plight of War’s Trauma Victims Goes Unreported

HCI’s newest initiative in Akora Khattak, Pakistan is an effort to help refugees cope with a scourge of mental-health problems. With as many as 90 percent of the occupants suffering symptoms linked to post-traumatic stress, HCI sponsored a visit by a team of therapists led by Syed Arshad Husain, a psychiatrist who heads the International Center for Psychosocial Trauma, headquartered at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Youth Mine Action Ambassador Program (YMAAP)

Since 1998, YMAAP study tours have been organized to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Cambodia and have included field visits to Canadian and international organizations working in the mine action sector. Proud supporters of the 2003 study tour include the Canadian Red Cross, YMAAP, the Muslim Council of Calgary, Meser Charitable Foundation and Human Concern International.


Nansen Medal Award Certificate, 1988

In 1988, HCI received the Nansen Medal Award Certificate, the prestigious annual award of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Nansen Medal is awarded by UNHCR to groups and individuals who have distinguished themselves in refugee work. It is named after Fridtjof Nansen -- the world's first global refugee official who served as the Refugee Commissioner of the League of Nations in the wake of World War I.
