GIVE TOUFIQ A CHANCE TO A LONGER AND BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE

Toufiqur Rahman (18 years old, grade 12 student in Dhaka , Bangladesh) needs an open heart surgery immediately to repair VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) in his heart. The cost of the operation and other related expenses is estimated to be US$9,000. His parents are unable to cover this huge expense.
Toufiq has had a congenital heart defect since childhood. Toufiq’s parents took him to Rabindranth Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Science (RTIICS) in Kolkata, India, in 2001. Doctors there prescribed him medicine. Toufiq has recently undergone medical tests in Dhaka , Bangladesh, that showed that he has a large VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) in his heart, which requires immediate operation. His situation has become very complicated and an immediate operation is necessary. Without the operation his situation becomes dire. After some research and discussion, the family has decided to take Toufiq to the Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital (http:// www.narayanahospitals.com/cardiac_surgery.html) at Bangalore, India.
Toufiq’s youngest sister, Afiya Adila Rahman, had a similar congenital heart defect. She went through open heart surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto , ON , Canada on February 2011. Her operation was sponsored by the Herbie Fund which helps to bring children less than 14 years of age from around the world to SickKids where they can receive treatment which is unavailable in their home country. Toufiq is too old to qualify for the Herbie Fund. Unfortunately because of his age, Toufiq’s situation has become worse than that of Afiya.
Toufiq’s father had open heart surgery in 2006, and in recent years had a few strokes which have caused additional health issues, therefore, he is unable to cover the huge expense of the surgery on his own. He is asking for help to bear the cost of this surgery.
